SUMMARY:liminal by T.H.E Dance Company
DESCRIPTION:liminal is a new platform by T.H.E Dance Company that brings together new choreographic works by mid-career artists. \nThe first edition begins as a triple bill with artists from within T.H.E\, featuring resident choreographer Anthea Seah\, alongside main company dance artists Fiona Thng and Klievert Jon Mendoza. Each presents a work exploring experiences many of us recognise—care\, desire\, responsibility\, longing and choice. \nAnthea Seah’s Ma looks at matrescence\, examining how identity shifts across generations\, as past and future selves surface and inherited memories are carried alongside care\, fatigue and love. Fiona Thng’s The Rooms Inside turns inward\, reflecting on motherhood as an emotional terrain where tenderness\, strength and strain exist side by side. In Laya\, Klievert Jon Mendoza explores the pull between desire and freedom\, asking what happens when what we long for begins to quietly limit us. \nTogether\, this first edition of liminal brings three mid-career choreographic voices into focus\, marking the opening chapter of a platform that will continue to expand and engage with a wider range of artistic voices across Singapore’s contemporary dance landscape.

SUMMARY:The Red Pencil (Singapore)'s Art to HeART Charity Art Exhibition 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Red Pencil (Singapore) is pleased to announce the return of its flagship fundraising event\, the Art to HeART Charity Art Exhibition 2026. Returning after its successful inaugural showcase in 2023\, the second edition will be held from 10 to 12 April 2026 at The Culture Story\, presenting a confluence of artistic excellence and compassionate action. \nAt its core\, the exhibition demonstrates how the visual art medium — the foundation of The Red Pencil (Singapore)’s therapeutic work — can transcend therapy rooms to become a wellspring of inspiration and beauty for the wider community. \nWith a fundraising target of $150\,000\, the event invites the public to engage with art not merely as spectators\, but as active participants in a movement for mental wellness. Proceeds directly support art therapy programmes that provide underprivileged communities with a vital pathway to emotional resilience. \nThis year’s showcase brings together over 30 of Singapore’s most esteemed artists\, united in their commitment to this cause. The distinguished line-up includes husband-and-wife duo Chow & Lin; veteran contemporary art icon Tang Da Wu; master Chinese ink artist Anthony Chua Say Hua; and artist-curator Zulkhairi Zulkiflee. The exhibition will also pay tribute to the late Chen Yi Quan\, whose works serve as a poignant reminder of art’s lasting impact. Further enriching the showcase are contributions from art therapists Yen Chua and Amanda Chen\, creating a direct visual link between practice and purpose. \n“After a successful inaugural run in 2023\, we are pleased to bring back Art to HeART Charity Art Exhibition for its second edition\,” said Mr Anthony Ang\, Board Chairman\, The Red Pencil (Singapore). “This is an opportunity for the public to see firsthand how artistic expression supports mental wellbeing. More importantly\, it allows us to rally support for our art therapy programmes\, which make a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most. We are grateful to the artists who have so generously contributed their works to this cause.” \nVisitors are invited to adopt artworks through donation. In 2026\, thanks to a matching initiative\, every dollar donated will count twice\, amplifying the reach of this vital cause. Beyond acquisition\, the exhibition serves as a vibrant gathering space\, offering Art Therapy Experiential Workshops where attendees can gain understanding of the therapeutic process\, alongside Artist Talks that provide insights into the intersection of creativity and emotional expression. \nMr Chong Huai Seng\, Co-founder of The Culture Story and Advisor to The Red Pencil (Singapore)\, shared\, “When The Red Pencil team approached me about bringing ‘Art to HeART’ to our space\, I gladly offered to support as the last event held in 2023 was a resounding success. It is heartwarming for me on a personal level to bring my circle of artists\, friends\, art lovers and collectors to the same setting and promote the good work done by The Red Pencil. At The Culture Story\, we believe in the power of art to forge meaningful connections\, spark conversations and inspire us to leave a legacy.”

SUMMARY:Brandon Tay: Sangkalan
DESCRIPTION:Step into Brandon Tay: Sangkalan\, an evolving installation of a fictional island ecosystem where fragments of a “lost” coastal culture are shaped through three species — a fruit\, an insect\, and a bird. Together\, their rhythms of growth\, flight and song weave a vivid picture of how humans and nature might share perception\, memory\, and meaning.  \nTravelling across four regional libraries in Woodlands\, Tampines\, Jurong and Punggol\, the installation unfolds as a living archive that evolves with each presentation. Visitors can encounter new elements over time\, making each stop a slightly different experience. Through vibrant textiles\, sculptural forms\, and archival materials\, Singaporean artist Brandon Tay translates the island’s collective memories into a language of colour\, geometry\, and symbols. Echoing the decentralised logic of blockchain networks\, Sangkalan invites visitors to reimagine information systems\, their origins and how nature might inspire new ways of sensing\, connecting\, and remembering. \nBrandon Tay: Sangkalan is held in collaboration with the National Library Board. Through the Library showcases\, SAM continues to extend contemporary art beyond traditional museum settings and into civic and community spaces\, encouraging encounters with contemporary art in unexpected and accessible everyday environments. \nVenues: \n\n15 April – 31 May 2026: Woodlands Regional Library\n3 June – 19 July 2026: Tampines Regional Library\n22 July – 6 September 2026: Jurong Regional Library\n9 September – 25 October 2026: Punggol Regional Library

SUMMARY:D-SIDE: Building Blocks
DESCRIPTION:D-SIDE: Building Blocks \nA multidisciplinary showcase by alumni of D’Hoppers Dance Crew (DDC) from the National University of Singapore. \nD-SIDE is a play on ‘b-side’ — the lesser-known track on a record — reimagined to celebrate our many identities as people and creatives. It’s also a play on ‘decide’: you hold the agency here. Choose how you move through the space\, which works you encounter\, and what sides of us you uncover. \nThis production reunites DDC alumni across eight generations\, some sharing the stage for the very first time. Dance once felt infinite — now it lives alongside deadlines\, adulthood\, and the quiet negotiations of a busy life. D-SIDE is our refusal to let it go. It’s a celebration of a passion that has grown up with us\, continues to inspire our lives\, and come back richer for it. \nNote: Some works contain explicit language. Parental guidance is advised. \nWarning: Strobe lighting effects will be used during some of the dance performances.

SUMMARY:Eko Bintang Role/Play | Opening Celebrations
DESCRIPTION:Role/Play presents new works by Eko Bintang\, exploring the tension between “role” and “play” — duty and freedom. Anonymous\, masked figures inhabit dreamlike spaces\, balancing playfulness with unease as they navigate identity\, performance\, and societal expectations. Through textured surfaces and ambiguous narratives\, Bintang reflects on the quiet tensions between conformity and self-expression.

The image can then be extended into print\, by using the embossed surface as a relief printing plate.\n\nRecommended for ages 12 and above.

SUMMARY:Pressure Points by Lucas Tan
DESCRIPTION:Haridas Contemporary is delighted to present Lucas Tan’s (b. 2000\, Singapore) debut solo exhibition with the gallery. Working mainly in figuration\, Tan’s practice focuses on capturing small\, fleeting moments and sentimentalities from everyday life. Influenced by his engagement with image culture\, Tan constructs his compositions through orchestration and mediation\, creating works that feel both deeply personal and strangely relatable. Throughout his practice\, these moments form a visual language that reflects lived experience and broader emotional patterns. \nPressure Points features 14 new paintings that highlight this focus by exploring the various pressures shaping the artist’s life. Scenes of intimacy\, distance\, and quiet reflection unfold across the exhibition\, revealing vulnerability in Tan’s work as he navigates feelings of belonging and ambition. Rooted in autobiography\, the works examine the tension between revealing and controlling\, and between the desire to be seen and the urge to self-present. In this body of work\, Tan’s focus on the everyday becomes a form of introspection\, unveiling an emotional landscape shaped by negotiation\, aspiration\, and the complexities of modern life.

SUMMARY:Under Our Skin – The Body Remembers
DESCRIPTION:If your body could speak\, what would it say? \nFollowing the launch of Under Our Skin: Conversations on Gender\, Identity\, and the Body\, we continue this series with its second conversation in our lineup. Titled The Body Remembers\, this session brings together a curated group of voices – Dr Jade Kua\, Ruby Jayaseelan\, Chan Sze-Wei\, and Preeti Nair – spanning mental health\, embodied movement\, film\, and content creation.  \nAcross these different fields and practices\, they will explore how the body is not just a subject\, but a site through which memory\, emotion\, identity\, and lived experience are processed and expressed. \nTaking cues from how artists have engaged with the body in Fear No Power: Women Imagining Otherwise and beyond\, the conversation explores the body not just as form\, but as something that reacts\, remembers\, and resists. Spend the evening with us as we unpack these ideas together\, and explore how they connect to our own experiences in everyday life. \nAfter the session\, guests are welcome to view select exhibitions with extended hours till 10pm.

SUMMARY:Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) 2026
DESCRIPTION:Revel in the arts this May through play! The Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA)\, Singapore’s pinnacle annual performing arts festival organised by Arts House Group and commissioned by the National Arts Council\, returns from 15 to 30 May with a vibrant constellation of performances\, installations and encounters — from epic productions to engaging\, participatory works. Led by the call-to-action “Let’s Play!”\, SIFA 2026 invites audiences to explore\, experiment\, engage and be inspired by the arts. \nSoak in the Festival vibes at the iconic Festival Village\, which makes its return this edition. Free performances\, public installations and communal spaces featuring local artists such as The Observatory\, The Theatre Practice and Off Root Theatrics welcome festivalgoers from dusk to dawn\, on the Festival grounds and beyond. This year\, SIFA brings two large-scale and high-impact artistic experiences from the Festival Village to Nexus\, Punggol Digital District\, enthralling the community with a soaring aerial performance featuring artists suspended 25 feet in the air\, and a speculative theatrical procession full of colour\, texture\, movement and melody. \nLocal commissioned productions and international works take the stage to bring together a cross collaboration of cultures and disciplines. From spotlighting homegrown cultural icons such as Jacintha Abisheganaden and Dick Lee\, and the reimagining of classics such as Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler by the National Theater Company of Korea\, and Hamlet by Peruvian company Teatro La Plaza and its cast of actors with Down syndrome\, to dance-based productions that blur the lines of reality through holographic technology and stunning stage illusions\, SIFA 2026 opens up multiple pathways and platforms for audiences to rediscover the joy and significance of coming together through art.

SUMMARY:The Good Husband Series 1: Becoming the Man You Were Meant to Be
DESCRIPTION:To every husband\, father\, and son carrying more than he lets on: This one is for you. \n  \nFor many men\, the journey isn’t always clear. There are silent struggles — the pressure to provide\, the expectation to lead\, to stay strong\, the fear of falling short — often without a space to even say it out loud. Mental and emotional challenges are real\, yet rarely spoken about. And yet Islam reminds us that true strength was never about suppressing what we feel. It is found in sincerity\, in patience\, and in turning back to Allah. \n  \nAl-Falah Mosque presents The Good Husband Series 1: Becoming the Man You Were Meant to Be — a safe\, honest\, and faith-grounded space for Muslim men to reflect on manhood through a deeper lens. One that balances responsibility with compassion\, and strength with self-awareness. \n  \nUstaz Sufian Hanafi will explore these realities — grounded in faith and guided by timeless principles. \n  \nA space for men to reflect\, to learn\, and to take a step forward — towards becoming not just stronger\, but more grounded\, aware\, and whole.

Conceived in dialogue with the Buddhist cosmological concept of the Five Elements (Earth\, Water\, Fire\, Wind and Void)\, the exhibition unfolds across five interconnected sections that loop into one another\, mirroring the cyclical rhythms of nature and life. This elemental framework reflects Sugimoto’s enduring inquiry into time\, perception\, and the structure of reality. \nBringing together over 60 works spanning five decades of his multidisciplinary practice\, including significant\, new\, and rarely seen works\, the exhibition reveals the breadth of Sugimoto’s oeuvre across photography\, sculpture\, and large-scale installation. From his meditative seascapes to architectural interventions and contemplative objects\, Sugimoto’s works delicately balance a strong material presence with a deep metaphysical inquiry.  \nForm is Emptiness offers an immersive introduction to the work of one of the world’s most significant contemporary artists. Moving between permanence and impermanence\, visibility and void\, the exhibition invites audiences to slow down and consider how form itself can become a vessel for reflection\, and how\, through Sugimoto’s lens\, the material world becomes a mirror for the mind.

SUMMARY:Ascent to the Bamboo Forest – A Dance Travelogue
DESCRIPTION:Ascent to the Bamboo Forest — A Dance Travelogue serves as a rare window into a hidden geography of Asia: the mystical highlands of Northern Vietnam. \nFollowing a 2025 performance-lecture\, ARTS FISSION dancers Aisha Lozano\, Marveen Lozano\, Andine Elaina\, and Ignatius Sim have since distilled their initial movement vocabulary into a triptych under the guidance of Angela Liong. The work is a deeply personal contemplation of the reverence for the land\, the sincerity of communal rituals\, and the Traditional Ecological Knowledge gleaned from their time among the mountain villagers. \nIn a departure from traditional scoring\, composer Chua Jon-Lin facilitates a kinetic soundscape where the dancers utilise bamboo culms\, leaves\, and organic materials to generate a live\, rhythmic score that breathes with the movement. \nStep into this transformed clearing and witness a quiet beauty—a way of life and an ancestral wisdom standing on the brink of imminent loss.
