SUMMARY:You Free Hor? 你闲哦? - A Solo Exhibition by Agnes Christina
DESCRIPTION:“You free hor?” is both an invitation and a jeer – asking if one has spare time or sarcastically saying they have too much time on hand. This solo exhibition by Indonesian artist Agnes Christina is a tongue-in-cheek show exploring the shifting attitudes toward time – how we are filling it\, stretching it\, valuing it. In modern productivity-driven culture such as Singapore\, time\, including the spare ones\, must be justified. As time becomes currency\, the exhibition asks: do we own our time\, or does it own us? What does it truly mean to be free?

SUMMARY:Pressure Points by Lucas Tan
DESCRIPTION:Haridas Contemporary is delighted to present Lucas Tan’s (b. 2000\, Singapore) debut solo exhibition with the gallery. Working mainly in figuration\, Tan’s practice focuses on capturing small\, fleeting moments and sentimentalities from everyday life. Influenced by his engagement with image culture\, Tan constructs his compositions through orchestration and mediation\, creating works that feel both deeply personal and strangely relatable. Throughout his practice\, these moments form a visual language that reflects lived experience and broader emotional patterns. \nPressure Points features 14 new paintings that highlight this focus by exploring the various pressures shaping the artist’s life. Scenes of intimacy\, distance\, and quiet reflection unfold across the exhibition\, revealing vulnerability in Tan’s work as he navigates feelings of belonging and ambition. Rooted in autobiography\, the works examine the tension between revealing and controlling\, and between the desire to be seen and the urge to self-present. In this body of work\, Tan’s focus on the everyday becomes a form of introspection\, unveiling an emotional landscape shaped by negotiation\, aspiration\, and the complexities of modern life.

SUMMARY:Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) 2026
DESCRIPTION:Revel in the arts this May through play! The Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA)\, Singapore’s pinnacle annual performing arts festival organised by Arts House Group and commissioned by the National Arts Council\, returns from 15 to 30 May with a vibrant constellation of performances\, installations and encounters — from epic productions to engaging\, participatory works. Led by the call-to-action “Let’s Play!”\, SIFA 2026 invites audiences to explore\, experiment\, engage and be inspired by the arts. \nSoak in the Festival vibes at the iconic Festival Village\, which makes its return this edition. Free performances\, public installations and communal spaces featuring local artists such as The Observatory\, The Theatre Practice and Off Root Theatrics welcome festivalgoers from dusk to dawn\, on the Festival grounds and beyond. This year\, SIFA brings two large-scale and high-impact artistic experiences from the Festival Village to Nexus\, Punggol Digital District\, enthralling the community with a soaring aerial performance featuring artists suspended 25 feet in the air\, and a speculative theatrical procession full of colour\, texture\, movement and melody. \nLocal commissioned productions and international works take the stage to bring together a cross collaboration of cultures and disciplines. From spotlighting homegrown cultural icons such as Jacintha Abisheganaden and Dick Lee\, and the reimagining of classics such as Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler by the National Theater Company of Korea\, and Hamlet by Peruvian company Teatro La Plaza and its cast of actors with Down syndrome\, to dance-based productions that blur the lines of reality through holographic technology and stunning stage illusions\, SIFA 2026 opens up multiple pathways and platforms for audiences to rediscover the joy and significance of coming together through art.

SUMMARY:Tang Maohong: Simplified
DESCRIPTION:ShanghART Singapore is delighted to present Simplified\, a solo exhibition by the\nChinese artist Tang Maohong\, opening on 16 May 2026 at 4pm. This exhibition brings\ntogether a selection of the artist’s latest paintings\, developed extensively over the past\nyear following his relocation to Kuala Lumpur\, Malaysia. It also marks his return to\nSingapore after his 2019 solo exhibition\, and twenty years since his participation in the\nfirst Singapore Biennale. \nTang’s new body of work reflects a significant development in his practice\, centered\naround explorations into the process of painting\, and its relationship with the result.\nThe act of painting typically results in two outcomes – the image on the canvas and the\nmixed colours on the palette. The works stem from the approach of mixing colours\ndirectly on the painting surface instead of using a palette. This simple gesture\ncollapses two planes into one\, creating a mutually-influencing relationship within the\nsame pictorial space. \nOriginating from a period of constraint\, this approach has been refined over the past\nyear into a more distilled visual language. Tang pares down his compositions to focus\non the relationship between the intended image and the residual colour. Deceptively\nsimple\, the underlying tension is withheld from the apparent harmonious coexistence\nof the two elements\, experienced only upon prolonged inspection. \nTang’s practice has consistently engaged with the nature of images and how we\nperceive them. He initially opted to work with animation for its ability to explore the\ninstability of images through time. Forms derived from the real world would morph\,\ndissolve\, and reassemble\, remaining familiar yet resistant to fixed interpretations.\nOver time\, this temporal process became increasingly condensed\, leading him back to\npainting. What once unfolded sequentially is now internalised\, with shifts and\ntransformations embedded within a single\, suspended surface. \nOperating between abstraction and figuration across different mediums\, Tang’s works\noften resist immediate recognition. His forms appear familiar yet elusive\, inviting\nsustained attention rather than instant interpretation. At the core of his practice is an\nongoing inquiry into perception – how images are formed\, how meaning emerges\,\nand how both remain inherently unstable. \nAcross two decades\, Tang has continued to refine and distill his approach\, pursuing\nthe same fundamental questions with increasing precision. This presentation marks a\npivotal moment in that trajectory. The new paintings bring together image\, material\,\nand structure into a tightly resolved yet open-ended condition\, where process and\nresult are held in balance. For Tang\, painting is not a means of searching for fixed\nanswers\, but a reciprocal process in which meaning emerges from the act of painting\nitself.

SUMMARY:RITUALS - ANIMA MUNDI 2026
DESCRIPTION:ITSLIQUID Group\, in collaboration with ACIT Venice – Italian-German Cultural Association\,\nis pleased to announce the opening of RITUALS\, the first appointment of ANIMA MUNDI\n2026. The exhibition will open on May 20\, 2026\, at Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello in Venice and\nwill run until June 04\, 2026.\nANIMA MUNDI is the vital energy that flows through all things\, the subtle force connecting\nevery form of existence\, from natural to artificial\, visible to invisible. Understood since\nPlato’s Timaeus as the soul of a living universe\, it returns today as an intuitive awareness\nof an invisible but active network that sustains transformation\, coexistence\, and renewal\nacross matter\, time\, and life. It is the underlying rhythm that links ecosystems\, human and\nnon-human entities\, and balances the continuous evolution of the world. Within this\nframework\, artists\, designers\, and architects are invited to explore how this universal\nenergy manifests today\, investigating the subtle correspondences between soul and body\,\nhumanity and nature\, and organic and synthetic worlds.

SUMMARY:Spectres: They Dream in Time
DESCRIPTION:“Spectres: They Dream in Time” is an interdisciplinary exhibition that explores the latent emotional and ecological traces embedded within Singapore’s urban landscape. Bringing together a constellation of works by Foo Hui Wen and Tan Wei\, the exhibition foregrounds photography\, moving image\, and installation as mediums of excavation\, unearthing the intangible yet deeply felt presences that haunt the city’s spaces. \nThrough a series of poetic gestures\, the exhibition reflects on Singapore’s enduring “garden city” narrative while inviting audiences to consider the affective and material legacies inscribed within the built environment. Spectrality in the exhibition gestures toward what lingers at the threshold of perception: emotional atmospheres\, ecological residues\, and fragments of memory that persist despite the city’s continual transformation. Engaging with both affect (emotional resonance) and effect (material impact)\, the exhibition asks what remains buried beneath carefully manicured greenness. What memories resist erasure? What unseen forces shape the ways we inhabit and remember a city? \nLocation: Art Outreach\, 5 Lock Rd\, #01-06 Gillman Barracks\n22 May 2026 till 31 May 2026\n12:00 pm – 7:00 pm daily \nFind out more about the exhibition here: \nhttps://www.artoutreachsingapore.org/hearth-project/spectres%3A-they-dream-in-time-

SUMMARY:Last Rites
DESCRIPTION:Bringing together five venerable performance artists from diverse Asian cultures\, Last Rites is a brand new\, cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary theatrical experience that confronts profound themes of endings and legacy. \nAt its core lies a soul-searching question: “If you could envision your last performance\, what would it look like?” Through in-depth interviews with these five living artistic bodies – whose average age is 74 – the piece avoids a direct depiction of death. Instead\, it traces back to their original callings\, the courage they found in the face of challenges and their personal understanding of art\, life and immortality. \nTheir narratives weave together a powerful life-tapestry of perseverance\, conviction and heritage: from Yang Shi Bin’s profound bond with his mentor\, Kuo Pao Kun\, Jung Dong-hwan’s commitment to treating every show as the last one\, Nam Geung-ho’s radical street performance and arrest\, Kanji Shimizu’s visceral contemplation of life and death through Noh\, to Didik Nini Thowok’s “empty glass” philosophy and his cross-cultural advocacy despite facing multiple discriminations”. \nIn the dialogue between the virtual and the real\, imagination and projection\, the stage becomes a critical boundary connecting the living and the deceased\, the body and the soul. This work\, presented by Emergency Stairs and directed by Liu Xiaoyi\, asks a vital question: After everything ends\, can an artist’s spiritual legacy achieve immortality within a live performance? \nThere will be a post-show talk with the artists after the 23 May\, 2pm Saturday performance.

SUMMARY:The Good Husband Series 1: Becoming the Man You Were Meant to Be
DESCRIPTION:To every husband\, father\, and son carrying more than he lets on: This one is for you. \n  \nFor many men\, the journey isn’t always clear. There are silent struggles — the pressure to provide\, the expectation to lead\, to stay strong\, the fear of falling short — often without a space to even say it out loud. Mental and emotional challenges are real\, yet rarely spoken about. And yet Islam reminds us that true strength was never about suppressing what we feel. It is found in sincerity\, in patience\, and in turning back to Allah. \n  \nAl-Falah Mosque presents The Good Husband Series 1: Becoming the Man You Were Meant to Be — a safe\, honest\, and faith-grounded space for Muslim men to reflect on manhood through a deeper lens. One that balances responsibility with compassion\, and strength with self-awareness. \n  \nUstaz Sufian Hanafi will explore these realities — grounded in faith and guided by timeless principles. \n  \nA space for men to reflect\, to learn\, and to take a step forward — towards becoming not just stronger\, but more grounded\, aware\, and whole.

SUMMARY:VOICE OF ART 6: PAUSE TO BEGIN
DESCRIPTION:VOICE OF ART 6 – PAUSE to begin\n\nVoice of Art 6: Pause to Begin marks the continuation of our artistic journey in Singapore. Following VOA 5\, “Roots & Wings\,” which explored growth and foundation\, this edition turns its focus to a timeless yet essential principle — the importance of pausing. At every stage of life and along every path to success\, moments of pause are not only necessary but meaningful. They do not represent an end; rather\, they offer a conscious space to rest\, recharge\, reflect\, and realign. From this stillness\, we move forward once again with renewed clarity\, purpose\, and intention\, ready to begin anew with greater depth and direction. \nAt Be One Gallery\, our commitment lies in supporting and promoting artists while fostering meaningful connections between artists\, collectors\, and the wider art community. We aim to cultivate a vibrant and inclusive creative ecosystem that celebrates diversity\, encourages cultural exchange\, and nurtures artistic growth. Voice of Art 6 continues this mission by bringing together both established and emerging artists local & international\, showcasing new voices alongside fresh bodies of work. Through engaging activities and thoughtfully curated programming\, this edition encourages dialogue\, inspiration\, and collaboration—further strengthening a dynamic community where art and culture thrive together. \nOne of the key highlights of this exhibition is the selection of three outstanding artworks by three participating artists in Voice of Art 6. This recognition is designed to encourage artists to continue striving for excellence\, nurturing their passion\, and expanding the boundaries of their creative practice. It serves as both a celebration of artistic achievement and a meaningful encouragement toward continued growth\, dedication\, and artistic evolution. \nAnother important highlight of the exhibition is the Young Artists Art Competition: Art for Tomorrow. This initiative is dedicated to supporting and encouraging students in Singapore who are passionate about art. It provides not only a valuable platform to showcase their work\, but also a unique opportunity to exhibit alongside the professional artists of Be One Gallery. \nMore than a competition\, this program invites young artists to immerse themselves in the wider art community — to experience\, learn\, and grow. With over nine years of experience in the art field\, we consider it our responsibility to nurture and uplift the next generation of artists. This commitment extends beyond supporting art alone; it is about cultivating a vibrant cultural landscape and fostering unity through creative expression. \nWe warmly invite you to experience Voice of Art 6 —\nwhere art\, reflection\, and new beginnings come together in harmony.

SUMMARY:Hiroshi Sugimoto: Form is Emptiness
DESCRIPTION:Singapore Art Museum proudly presents Hiroshi Sugimoto: Form is Emptiness\, the first major solo exhibition in Southeast Asia dedicated to the practice of internationally renowned Japanese artist Hiroshi Sugimoto. Conceived in dialogue with the Buddhist cosmological concept of the Five Elements (Earth\, Water\, Fire\, Wind and Void)\, the exhibition unfolds across five interconnected sections that loop into one another\, mirroring the cyclical rhythms of nature and life. This elemental framework reflects Sugimoto’s enduring inquiry into time\, perception\, and the structure of reality. \nBringing together over 60 works spanning five decades of his multidisciplinary practice\, including significant\, new\, and rarely seen works\, the exhibition reveals the breadth of Sugimoto’s oeuvre across photography\, sculpture\, and large-scale installation. From his meditative seascapes to architectural interventions and contemplative objects\, Sugimoto’s works delicately balance a strong material presence with a deep metaphysical inquiry.  \nForm is Emptiness offers an immersive introduction to the work of one of the world’s most significant contemporary artists. Moving between permanence and impermanence\, visibility and void\, the exhibition invites audiences to slow down and consider how form itself can become a vessel for reflection\, and how\, through Sugimoto’s lens\, the material world becomes a mirror for the mind.

SUMMARY:Planet [wanderer]
DESCRIPTION:Strange and bewitching\, Planet [wanderer] is the intriguing result of a collaboration between renowned choreographer Damien Jalet – a collaborator of Madonna\, Thom Yorke\, and Marina Abramović\, among others – and Japanese visual artist and scenographer Kohei Nawa. \nBoth have a fascination for transforming shapes in space. In this dreamlike piece\, they confront the bodies of eight dancers with shifting materials and textures\, creating a visceral meditation on the bond between people and planet. Their bodies move back and forth like reeds\, in a fragile balance between power and vulnerability\, harmony and survival\, destruction and evolution.

SUMMARY:Ascent to the Bamboo Forest – A Dance Travelogue
DESCRIPTION:Ascent to the Bamboo Forest — A Dance Travelogue serves as a rare window into a hidden geography of Asia: the mystical highlands of Northern Vietnam. \nFollowing a 2025 performance-lecture\, ARTS FISSION dancers Aisha Lozano\, Marveen Lozano\, Andine Elaina\, and Ignatius Sim have since distilled their initial movement vocabulary into a triptych under the guidance of Angela Liong. The work is a deeply personal contemplation of the reverence for the land\, the sincerity of communal rituals\, and the Traditional Ecological Knowledge gleaned from their time among the mountain villagers. \nIn a departure from traditional scoring\, composer Chua Jon-Lin facilitates a kinetic soundscape where the dancers utilise bamboo culms\, leaves\, and organic materials to generate a live\, rhythmic score that breathes with the movement. \nStep into this transformed clearing and witness a quiet beauty—a way of life and an ancestral wisdom standing on the brink of imminent loss.
