In conjunction with DECK’s Print Room showcase ‘Speak Softly. Speak Low.’ by Liana Yang, there will be a panel session discussing the state of modern romance. The dialogue will provide more insights into Liana’s works within the exhibition and her practice.
What is the state of contemporary relationships as we progress deeper into the millennium and develop greater reliance on social media? Does the Internet affect how we love and sustain in romantic bonds? Or is it caused by evolving societal attitudes? How do we try to come to terms with paradoxical notions such as ‘nothing lasts forever ‘and ‘there are many fish out in the sea’, to ‘the perfect one’ and ‘soulmate’?
Come explore these tropes of modern romance and more with visual artist, Liana Yang in her panel discussion. Spanning over 10 years, Liana’s works have combined photography, video, sound and found objects to explore social and sociological interactions, as well as the enigmatic unseen aspects of relationships. Her more recent works explore the realms of contemporary romance and structures of social economies.
