Objectifs presents three public exhibitions during Singapore Art Week 2024

Featuring works by finalists of the 5th VH AWARD, Objectifs Curator Open Call, and Eko Prawoto and Post-Museum.

Singapore Art Week is set to make a vibrant comeback this year, and Objectifs is delighted to showcase three distinctive exhibitions that promise to captivate art enthusiasts and novices alike. This includes an exhibition curated by the Objectifs Curator Open Call 2023 Recipient, a groundbreaking collaboration with VH AWARD, and an outdoor exhibition curated by Wang Ruobing, featuring works by Eko Prawoto and contributions from Post-Museum. All three exhibitions are set to open on 20 January 2024, 5pm at Objectifs during Singapore Art Week 2024.

Objectifs Curator Open Call: A Reservoir of Time

In the Chapel Gallery, the 2023 recipient of the annual Objectifs Curator Open Call, Goh Chun Aik, curates an enthralling exhibition, A Reservoir of Time. Exploring the intricacies of time as a conceptual framework that shapes our understanding of the world, artists Lewis Choo, Ge Xiaocong, Hong Shu-ying, Ivan Ong, alongside Goh Chun Aik’s own contribution, bring together their individual understanding of time through their artworks, creating encounters that strive to influence our experience of time. The images and objects presented suggest a collection of memories, traces of activity, possibilities from across the time-space and even alternative timelines; resulting in an overlapping of timelines that prompts us to re-examine our perception of time.

Opening on 20 January 2024 and continuing through 4 March 2024, the showcase embarks on a compelling exploration into our complex relationship with time, offering visitors a unique and immersive artistic experience.

5th VH AWARD Exhibition

For the first time, Hyundai Motor Group and the National Arts Council jointly present the 5th VH AWARD Exhibition in Singapore, a collaboration marking a significant milestone in the 12th edition of the Singapore Art Week.

The Objectifs Lower Gallery will serve as the venue for the unveiling of video works by five finalists of the 5th VH AWARD, each having been granted support for the production of new artworks. From 21 January to 4 February 2024, this inaugural exhibition in Singapore will showcase the talents of Asian new media artists Subash Thebe Limbu, Zike He, Riar Rizaldi, Su Hui-Yu, and zzyw.

This showcase of diverse artistic expressions provides a glimpse into cutting-edge trends and global perspectives that define contemporary art. The VH AWARD supports emerging Asian media artists to share their artistic experiments and amplify their voices on diverse issues by offering the opportunity to participate in the online residency program and showcase their works across various global platforms.

Initiated in 2016, the VH AWARD has been discovering and cultivating promising artists engaged with the context and future of Asia. The award emboldens the artists who are working at the edges of audiovisual creation to challenge how we understand ourselves and each other in relation to the past, present, and future. The exhibition will be officially opened with a joint reception at the Objectifs Courtyard on 20 January 2024, at 5pm.

Alternative Ecology: The Community

Held in the outdoor communal courtyard area of Objectifs from 13 to 28 January 2024, Alternative Ecology: The Community is an engaging art and ecology event featuring a sculptural social space, Fragment of the Unknown Memory. Crafted from bamboo by the late Indonesian artist and architect Eko Prawoto, this installation is complemented by the Bamboo Broadcast Studio, a series of public programmes organised by Post-Museum.

Local community groups, professionals, and artists passionate about sustainability, nature, and ecology are cordially invited to partake in a variety of activities, including panel discussions, booths, and symposiums. Through programmes such as the Renew Earth Sweat Shop Workshop, a Stone Soup Party, Eco-Karaoke night, Eco-Singles Night, Water & Sustainability Symposiums, and the Singapore Really Really Free Market, the event aims to rally communities and the public for purposeful and active participation in addressing the ecological challenges that we face today.
