29 November 2022 — New works at Future World: Where Art Meets Science

Looking to feast your eyes on something new? The ArtScience Museum’s latest offering is sure to enchant you. Its permanent exhibition Future World: Where Art Meets Science and Digital Light Canvas by teamLab at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands have been refreshed with new additions by internationally acclaimed artist collective teamLab.

New additions to Future World include a new multi-sensory gallery titled Exploring New Frontiers, which houses three new interactive artworks. These are Autonomous Abstraction, Continuous Phenomena from the Universe to the Self; Aerial Climbing Through A Flock of Colored Birds; and Sketch Flight.

Building on teamLab’s deep philosophical interest in the cosmos, Autonomous Abstraction sees a room awash in glowing nebulas of rainbow lights that respond to one’s touch.

Aerial Climbing consists of rainbow-coloured steps suspended dramatically in the air as illuminated, abstract birds soar and gentle music plays in the background. Visitors are encouraged to climb through the installation and admire how each step illuminates its different parts. Be warned — it’s more challenging than it looks!

Sketch Flight follows teamLab’s tradition of allowing visitors to make their drawings a part of the artwork. This time, Sketch Flight invites you to colour in pre-designed outlines of a hawk, a plane, or a butterfly.

Scanning your finished drawings into the work not only allows you to see them come to life on the LED screen, but also to control your creation with an accompanying tablet. This work certainly made our jaws drop!

Over at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, natural ecosystems inspire Graffiti Nature, the latest iteration of Digital Light Canvas by teamLab. Colour in drawings of your animal of choice (think snakes, frogs, lizards, and even alligators!), scan them with the help of exhibition assistants, and watch your creation emerge as light projections on the floor.

Echoing the circle of life, the animals on the screen will interact and even eat each other! You’ll also have the chance to print your animal on souvenirs such as tote bags and badges.

The refreshed gallery at Future World: Where Art Meets Science and Digital Light Canvas by teamLab at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands opened on 26 November 2022 and will run as permanent exhibitions.
