A Brooding Beast In The Corner

The production is an intimate dance-theatre performance featuring four solos bookended by two duets. Reflecting on the distress caused by environmental crisis and political turmoil in the world, the performance searches for the meaning of individual’s place in this apocalyptic time.
The set shows the aftermath of a disaster with debris and objects strewn everywhere. The disarray maps out what was once a room with clues from bits of fixtures left behind from the destruction.
An enigmatic beast figure remains seated with its back to the audience throughout the show. Texts from Franz Kafka’s Blue Octavo Notebooks are heard, shedding lights to the unseen struggles and sufferings of the four solitaire performers.
Conceived by chief choreographer and artistic director Angela Liong, this dance-theatre performance features the Arts Fission Dancers Marveen Lozano, Andine Elaina, Aisha Polestico, and guest artist Gu Anran from Wuhan, China. They are also movement collaborators and contributes supporting choreographies to the production.
The other collaborators of the production are seasoned professionals such as lighting designer Tommy Wong, set designer Grace Lin Huili, and sound engineer Varian Tan.
