A Date with Tradition 2025

August 22 @ 6:00 pm - September 6 @ 10:30 pm

Step into a vibrant celebration of heritage and creativity at A Date with Tradition 2025, returning to Stamford Arts Centre (SAC) for three weekends of immersive arts and cultural experiences. Organised by Arts House Limited in conjunction with the Singapore Night Festival, this year’s edition invites audiences to rediscover traditional arts reimagined through bold contemporary forms.

From 22 August to 6 September 2025, SAC transforms into a living tapestry of sound, movement, and storytelling. Explore over 20 unique programmes that blend tradition with innovation — from kinetic installations and roving performances to hands-on workshops and community art. Highlights include:

Immersive Installations

  • Earthsong by Thai collective Hear and Found: A meditative soundscape of Indigenous Thai traditions.
  • Loitering by Isaiah Cheng: A photographic journey through urban memory and migration.
  • The Garden of Stories by Yang Jie: Interactive sculptures evoking kampung life in 1950s–60s Singapore.

Live Performances and Workshops

  • Tradition in Motion: Roving flute performances by Cultural Medallion recipient Dr Ghanavenothan Retnam.
  • To Your Eternity by Chee Sau Fen: Calligraphy workshops using recycled materials.
  • Breaking the Opera Walls by Traditional Arts Centre: Teochew opera snippets and hands-on sessions.
  • The Wolf of Mr Dong Guo by Paper Monkey Theatre: A shadow puppet retelling of a Chinese folktale.
  • Minhwa, Together by Singapore Association of Minhwa Art: A vibrant exhibition blending Korean folk art with Peranakan elements, plus hands-on workshops and group colouring activities.
  • Embracing Nature by Shantha Ratii Initiatives: A experiential storytelling workshop exploring floral symbolism through expressive Indian dance gestures.
  • Enjoy Getai songs and behind-the-scenes opera previews with The Opera People.
