ANTEPRIMA x CHAT Contemporary Textile Art Prize

CHAT (Centre for Heritage, Arts and Textile) and ANTEPRIMA proudly announce the selection of eight finalists for the inaugural ANTEPRIMA x CHAT Contemporary Textile Art Prize. 

The recipient of the coveted grand prize of HKD 300,000 in cash will be revealed at the prestigious award ceremony, set to take place at The Mills on 29 November 2024. Commencing 30 November 2024, CHAT will exhibit the exceptional works of the finalists, inviting the public to immerse themselves in this textile art extravaganza. Furthermore, an Audience Prize will be presented to a recipient chosen by popular vote, with the winner announced on 3 March 2025.

This art prize stands as a beacon, inspiring and empowering international artists to harness diverse textile materials, techniques, and technologies, fostering the development of creative concepts and visionary ideas in response to contemporary society. Embracing a global perspective, the prize seeks to explore the limitless possibilities of textile art and kindle new viewpoints, particularly from an Asian vantage point.

The eight finalists were meticulously chosen from a pool of 29 nominations representing diverse backgrounds. A panel of esteemed curators, renowned on a global scale, undertook the selection process, evaluating candidates based on criteria such as artistic potential, originality, skill, idea, and methodology.

The panel of judges consists of Ann Coxon, Curator of International Art at Tate Modern, UK; Judith Greer, Director of the International Programme at Sharjah Art Foundation, UAE; Lesley Ma, Ming Chu Hsu and Daniel Xu Associate Curator of Asian Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, USA; Cuauhtémoc Medina, Chief Curator at the Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC), Mexico; and Takahashi Mizuki, Executive Director and Chief Curator of CHAT, Hong Kong.
