Ding Yi Music Company presents the second edition of ECOncert

Ding Yi Music Company is proud to announce the second edition of its popular “ECOncert“ series, a captivating and thought-provoking musical journey that delves into the complex relationship between humanity and the natural world. This year’s theme, Waste, invites
audiences to reflect on one of the most pressing environmental issues of our time through the transformative power of music and art.

Under the artistic direction of Creative Director Wong De Li, Dedric, and Stage Director & Dramaturg Ang Xiao Ting, the concert promises an immersive and emotionally charged experience that not only highlights the environmental impact of waste but also offers a message of hope and renewal. The concert’s narrative is further enriched by the evocative compositions of Malaysian composer Yii Kah
Hoe and Singapore composer Avik Chari, who have crafted a musical tapestry that underscores the urgency of environmental awareness while celebrating the resilience of nature.

“The ECOncert series was born out of a desire to focus deeply on the pressing environmental challenges we face,” said Wong De Li, Dedric, Creative Director and Conductor. “The “Wasted” documentary by ECO Business served as a powerful catalyst for our theme. The Mobius recycling loop, highlighted in the film, struck me as a profound metaphor—not just for waste, but for the interconnectedness of music, humanity, and nature. After extensive brainstorming, we decided to use this symbol to represent the continuous cycle where these three elements influence and regenerate one another.”Taking inspiration from Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot, the stage design of “ECOncert” will serve as a striking analogy for our environmental crisis. This innovative design is brought to life through the visionary art installations of Young Artist Award recipient Alecia Neo and the atmospheric lighting by Liu Yong Huay, drawing the audience deeper into the thematic core of the performance. Adding a unique and compelling dimension to the concert are the instruments remade with sustainable materials by Alvin Chea Hong Shen and Chea Wei Xian.

Additionally, as a prelude to the concert, join us for the ECOncert Arts Chat, where a panel consisting of the creative team and experts will explore how this pressing issue of waste is expressed through the mediums of art and music. This insightful discussion will provide a behind-the-scenes look at how each artistic element addresses the concert’s theme. More details will be released on our social media

ECOncert will be held on 23 October 2024 (Wednesday), 7.30pm at the Esplanade Recital Studio.
