In ancient legend, each of the fine arts had a goddess who represented them. Terpsichore was the goddess of dance and has been presented in several ideals in all forms of dance, from traditional cultural dance to the formalities of ballet. Ballet has a tradition that goes all the way back to the French count of Louis IVX, who envisioned himself as the Sun King and staged elaborate pageants and ballets to depict the higher nature of music, movement and performance. We have advanced a long way since then but the spectacle of dance performance has the same ideal in which it is to bring something to life that is both ideal and memorable.
