Wabi reaches its peak of austerity in emptiness, while Post–Wabi entails magnificence and opulence. Challenging the idea of simplicity, two Japanese artists, Yukiharu Furuno and Takanao Todo, play with technology, as well as vibrant and contrasting colours, to introduce the use of new colours and open up a new horizon for Japanese aesthetic.
Furuno’s work was chosen and presented as a gift from the Emperor and Empress of Japan to the then President and First Lady of the United States, the first state guests of the new Reiwa era.
Todo is a multi-award-winning architectural designer who is passionate in creating different kinds of ceramic ware. He has done multiple collaborations with JCC, and one of this works has become a permanent collection at Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth Singapore.
