17 October 2022 — Altered Realities: A Jiangshi Introspection at BLAXK by Action City
Hey, Plural Pals! If you remember watching classic Chinese vampire movies like ‘Mr Vampire’ when you were younger, you’ll definitely want to check out this fun exhibition at BLAXK by Action City.
Brimming with vivid colour and gory detail, the exhibition showcases over 120 Jiangshi creations and collectables handcrafted by Daniel Yu. Yu has reimagined the Chinese hopping vampire through a modern pop culture lens, sculpting them in bobble-sized heads or even as tiny miniature figurines the size of your thumb. The figurines that were mass-produced and made from vinyl are for sale.
Be sure to catch the first wave of featured artists, whose artworks are on show until 20th October! Look through our photos below to see what’s on display.
A playful installation to prevent vampires from passing through, we hope! The Chinese characters are apparently a phrase used in movies to ward off vampires.

Hung over our heads were many of these pop art talismans with each artist’s name on them.
Here’s one of the vampires given the classic action figure packaging treatment.
