Laksamana Ryo, well-known as a pop surrealist young artist from Indonesia who carries a “big eyes” figure combined with an urban context, especially industrial culture context that are often found across Asia.
Ryo grew up in coastal areas, Banyuwangi, Indonesia. As an artist he was inspired by popular icons. The figure of Ryo’s big eyes tends to be satirical, even though it’s present in a cute atmosphere.
Combined with the issue of identity his artwork expressed the meaning of pop culture in Ryo point of view.
Ryo’s daily life is closely related to the industrial culture, labour and transnational workers. These memento shaped Ryo creative sediment and made a unique landscape that he poured into his art. Ocean Eyes is a binocular of dreams, desires and imaginations that arise from hopes for a trendy, dapper and present life.
