Shubugi Rao’s Pulp III: A Short Biography of the Banished Book has come home from the Venice Biennale and is now on show at the ArtScience Museum.
It’s a far cry from the minimalist, book-laden labyrinth that was shown at the international showcase, but no less thought-provoking. Accompanying this are daily screenings of Rao’s film Talking Leaves, which explores individuals’ efforts to save books and libraries while contemplating the violence that occurs when one is stripped of one’s culture.
Visitors are also welcome to take home a copy of Pulp III — provided they leave behind some brief contact details for the artist and let her know where you hope to take the book. With this, the artist hopes to note physical and interpersonal flows of information, contrasting with the belief that the Internet is the sole source of knowledge.
